From bedroom recordings on a busted amp to composing for film, TV and branded content, Caleb Jacobs’ journey shows how experimentation can evolve into a distinctive creative voice. In our latest Melodie Makers episode, Caleb opens up about how his DIY beginnings shaped not only his technical skills but also the way he approaches composition today.
Meet Caleb Jacobs
“I started out teaching myself to record in my bedroom, and every time I got a new synth, or microphone, or pedal the best way for me to learn is just to use it. Creative recording techniques became part of my composition process, so DIY has sort of become a little bit embedded in what I do.”
Caleb also shares how he keeps his work fresh across multiple projects, moving between reality TV, wildlife documentaries and branded content. For him, the key is to stay open:
“If I’m working on stuff on multiple projects in the same day, it kinda keeps my mind open and not super zeroed in on one type of genre. I sometimes come up with more interesting stuff that way.”
