11 Jun Melodie Makers – Luna Pan
From fireworks over Sydney Harbour to lo-fi hip hop on national TV, Luna Pan is a musical force whose work spans genres, cultures and continents. Based in Sydney, Luna is a composer for film, TV and games – and one of Melodie’s earliest contributors.
Meet Luna Pan
In our latest Melodie Makers interview, Luna shares what it was like composing the official soundtrack for the 2025 Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks, a 12-minute genre-hopping odyssey featuring female vocals, orchestral scoring, and underwater-inspired EDM. The result? An unforgettable moment for millions watching around the world—and for Luna, who watched it all unfold live from the Opera House.
“I actually used all female vocals… mixed orchestral with house, DnB and even a bit of afrobeat,” she says. “Everything had this underwater theme based on Sydney Harbour’s history. It all came together in about two months.”
Luna’s formal training began with classical piano at age four, later expanding into orchestration, production and scoring for screen. She’s had her music recorded by world-class orchestras including RTVE Symphony Orchestra in Spain and Smecky Music Studios in Prague (even if she had to attend the sessions remotely during COVID).
She’s also one of the OG Melodie composers, with placements on Bondi Rescue, Ambulance Australia, Love It or List It, Everyday Gourmet and more.
What keeps her grounded? Strong creative identity, a great Mac Studio + PC setup, and staying inspired by composers like James Newton Howard and Nicholas Britell. She’s also passionate about supporting other female composers through mentorship and panel work.
As for what’s next: “I just finished a feature film for Lifetime, a web series, and I’ve got a short film next month. But I also want to carve out time to create something for myself—an album that presents my voice to the world.”
