We sat down with Melodie API partner, Pictory, to learn about how this content creation tool uses four unique AI algorithms to power everything from visual stock choices to music selection, even converting text to speech, saving creators valuable time.

Melodie: Hi Vikram, thanks for chatting with me today. Firstly, what is Pictory?

Vikram Chalana (CEO of Pictory): Hey Selin! My pleasure. In a nutshell, Pictory simplifies converting long-form content, such as blogs and webinars, into short videos that are ideal for social media.

Sounds fantastic, repurposing content can go a long way and is a great time saver for content creators. So how does it work, and where does music come into play?

Firstly, Music is incredibly important in video creation – it sets the tone and mood, drives energy into scenes and elicits emotions in the audience.

It’s also undeniable that having quality music in your video makes the message much more convincing, powerful and memorable, which is key when it comes to content marketing. This is exactly why we wanted to integrate music into our video solution – to enable our users to create better, more engaging videos.

I couldn’t agree more! What’s the process of creating videos on Pictory?

We have two AI-powered workflows that enable our users to create or edit videos in minutes.

In the first one, our users start from a piece of text, say a video script or a blog post. The first AI in the system summarizes the text and creates a short video out of it. Then, for each sentence in the summarized text, another AI algorithm finds the best matching visual (a video clip or an image) from a vast library of stock visual content. A third AI algorithm then selects the best music track to accompany the video. Finally, a fourth AI algorithm converts the text to speech to accompany the video. Users can then manually adjust any of the AI-selected components. Once they are happy with it, they click a button to generate the video. And there you go, a video with great music, thanks to you guys!

In the second workflow, our users start with a recorded video, say a webinar. Our AI then transcribes this video while maintaining time stamps for every word. Users can then simply cut out or select parts of the video by highlighting the transcribed text, or they can use a summarisation AI algorithm to help automatically select key sentences from the transcription.

Users can then easily add background music to the edited video before they finally generate the video. Of course, they have a huge variety of musical genres, moods, purposes and more to choose from the Melodie catalogue. This gives our users creative freedom and flexibility, enabling them to create much better videos!

We were really impressed by the way your AI selects music like that, it’s powerful stuff! Tell me, when you integrated the Melodie API into your platform, how did you find the process?

The integration process was very smooth. The APIs were well documented via the OpenAPI specification, and the support team was very responsive and eager to help at all times, which made things even easier.

Great to hear you found the integration simple & smooth! Did you have music on offer before? If yes, what made you choose Melodie instead?

We had a very limited set of music tracks from Shutterstock in our product before. Melodie offered a much wider and much more interesting selection. Some of our customers and partners were already using tracks from Melodie, and they were the ones who recommended it!

That’s great to hear! What has the user feedback been like generally, with regards to a quality music integration at Pictory?

Our customers love the unlimited selection offered by Melodie. When we announced Melodie to our customers, they were very excited, and we drove several new sales as a result.
