11 Feb Building A Business With Purpose
To kick off the new decade, our music company, Melodie, has relaunched as a licensed music subscription service. We’re providing easy access for the world’s content creators to download great music for their productions. We’re something like Spotify, but instead of just streaming we license music to be used in TV, film, podcasts, videos, games — you name it.
We’ve been working tirelessly with so many fantastic people to get to this point and I’ll be honest — it’s incredibly exciting. Our music licensing machine has been born.
At this pivotal time, I wanted to take a step back and remind myself — and the team — of why we all got into this business in the first place.
Three words: we love music.
We have the privilege of working with incredibly talented composers, producing music for creatives of every kind. We are the conduit between the composer and the content creator, and that’s an exciting place to be.
Melodie has always been about more than just selling things, even amazing things like music.
Perhaps my proudest moment at Melodie has been in defining our company’s core values and of course our purpose.
‘To connect and support a thriving creative community’.
Inspired by the B Corp movement, we believe at its core every business should be about more than just profit. In 2020, before anything else, the world needs kindness and compassion. So for our part, we are dedicated to supporting our community of artists, content creators and employees in any way we can. We will continue to create an environment that encourages creativity, social cohesion, diversity and environmental sustainability, as well as all the little things that contribute to a happy and healthy workplace, community and world.
I’d like to share with you three simple principles that we look to when making decisions at Melodie. They’re values I also aspire to live by, because sometimes it’s the smallest things that have the biggest impact.
Passion brings out our best and inspires others. We love what we do and we do it well. This means constantly pushing the boundaries and finding new ways to do things better.
Curiosity is the mother of invention. We embrace the strange, the imperfect and the sometimes weird. We encourage openness and ideas sharing, allowing creativity to thrive.
We look after each other. Our team, artists, customers, the local barista, the cleaner. We believe kindness, inclusion and diversity leads to a healthier workplace (and world).
